One of the fun and interesting things about collecting glassware is that you have so many choices of things you can collect, from patterns, to kinds of glass such as Depression ware, to articles, such as creamers, tea cups or simple things like bud vases. Bud vases are small, easy to display and are found by some of the most upscale glassmaking companies, as well as some of the vintage makers of Depression glass. The bud vases are interesting examples of some of the more old or popular companies and can usually be purchased for minimal cost, come in a wide array of styles, colors and with varying decorations. ![]() Glass bud vases can be found in any color, form or style you prefer to collect. Nearly every glass company, at one time or another has made a bud vase; from the better know Depression era glass companies to Blenko, to Fostoria, Tiffany, Steuben and Royal Doulton. Fostoria made few bud vases. The pressed American and Colony bud vases are the best known. They were made for literally decades and in addition a few hand blown vases were made that were produced for a far shorter time span. Royal Doulton began production of small items such as bud vases for collectors many years ago. Finding authentic vintage bud vases isn’t always easy and when you do they just may bring a price you aren’t willing to pay! ![]() Royal Doulton Chelsea etched glass bud vase. The companies which have made bud vases easily found for a reasonable price include Noritake, Viking, Blenko, McKee glassware, Federal Glassware, and many others. Vintage bud vases were produced in many colors and patterns and those which are antique are still readily available in some patterns and colors for the newer collector. If you’re not quite sure what kind of glassware you might like to collect and don’t really want to spend the earth until you decide, bud vases, tea cups or some other smaller collection might just be the place to start. |
