The holidays, as we know are just around the bend. If you’re anything like I am, you will procrastinate on that gifting process until you’re right down to the wire simply because you haven’t a clue what to get for some of the people on your list. Coming from a tribe rather than a family, I’ve invariably got someone on my Christmas gift list that is one of those “impossible to buy for” folks. For the glass enthusiast on your list, who has essentially collected it all and you can’t find a thing to offer, there are a few ideas that might impress them with your thoughtfulness and you, with the price and value. ![]() Vintage glass christmas ornament. Royal Doulton China, home to some of the best loved and most collected china patterns in the world, has offered us a lovely clearance aisle in their virtual store, cutting prices on some quality things such as vases, floral teacup and saucer sets and many of their remarkable figurines, and many of the other china houses have followed suit, offering clearanced merchandise at savings up to 75%. In Royal Doultons case, that makes a savings of sometimes hundreds of dollars for the same merchandise we’ve all been paying full price for. I took the time to wander through their pages last week and avail myself of some of the more impressive bargains to add to my collection. The Old Country Roses spice rack that I”d had my eye on for some time at a retail of 180.00, was a whole lot more fun to buy when the price went down to $45. Those kinds of bargains are what a glass enthusiast loves to see. eBay, still the premier place to find depression glass, currently has some lovely pinks and greens for us to make use of in our quest for the perfect Christmas gift. If you start now, rather than waiting til the last moment, there will be plenty of time to rake in the bargains and make sure that you have time for shipping to the recipient of your perfect find. Happy Holidays and happy hunting! |
